Lidgetton Community Project Update - July 2014

DONATIONS
At the beginning of winter, the children received jerseys, shoes and blankets. The Jerseys, beanies and gloves came from a group of ladies from the Howick community church - thank you.
To John Porter for your continued support and sponsorship of our project and for donating blankets for our soup kitchen children, thank you.
A group of enthusiastic women from the local community, Amber Ridge, sewed sleeping bags for the children. We are very grateful for this contribution, as are the children, we are sure!
Many thanks to the people from Amber Valley who contribute soup for the Soup Kitchen. Hillary Vickers is collecting the soup, which is picked-up by Sandra on the 1st Wednesday of the month.
Pat, Sandra’s husband, has been wonderful in collecting the vegetables from the Turners at Merrivale. Recently we received a lot of cabbages. Also potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage and broccoli seedlings.

Thank you to those sponsors for their cash donations so that we can buy foodstuffs each month for our project. We have also received an abundance of clothing from various organisations for which we are very grateful. Thank you to a special friend who contributed to our feeding scheme instead of giving Sandra a birthday present. Best birthday present ever, said Sandra.
Thank you to Mr and Mrs Jangda and Naheem Sarang who run the Lidgetton cash store and who are always so cheerful and willing to help us with contributions of foodstuffs when we run short.

MANDELA DAY
We celebrated a wonderful Mandela Day in Lidgetton with the children.
Hans Vermaak and his family, through Toys for Africa, delivered toys to the children on Mandela Day, 18th July.
There was, naturally, a lot of excitement.
Hans also kindly donated a wheel barrow and a bow saw, which will be very useful for Nokuthula, as well as soccer balls for the children (a hit!) and food.
Ten men and women from KZN tourism came in the morning with their vehicle and trailer full of food, clothing and goodies for the children.
The food that has been donated, is enough to last 5 months - thank you for this wonderful contribution.
The children sang some lovely songs which made the people from the KZN tourism very emotional as they had sung the same songs when they were young and were singing along.
It was a lovely morning and all enjoyed themselves.
